Ongoing Projects
A children's performance program organized by the 'Aitan Lapsi' Charity Fund and the Estonian Association of Small and Project Theatres, which has brought up to 12 performances to HNRK each year.
In addition to HNRK patients, children from the surrounding areas were also welcome to the performances. However, due to COVID-19 infection safety restrictions, we can only offer wonderful and educational theatre experiences to HNRK's own young patients, as well as all adult patients – in many cases, these are delightful family-friendly shows. The program has included performances by Estonian authors as well as from world classical repertoire. The performances are free for the audience.
The 'Aitan Lapsi' Charity Fund's children's performance program has brought joy and excitement to our little friends since 2016.
The Relay Race invites donations for children undergoing treatment at the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre who have lost their mobility!
2025. This year, we are helping the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre acquire a children's exercise bike, which is a necessary tool for hospital therapy sessions and for young patients to warm up their joints and muscles before physiotherapy classes.
This inherently simple tool helps achieve a lot – an exercise bike can increase muscle strength and endurance, allowing for both light workouts and high-intensity exercises. The device can also be used during free time, allowing children and parents to pedal side-by-side, chat, and be an example to each other.
Let's all pitch in together and bring the children's exercise bike to HNRK's indoor wellness track. The device will be located in the hospital's second-floor corridor, where an adult exercise bike, a stepper, and a wall bar with accompanying equipment are already present.
This year, the Charity Relay Race celebrates its 20th anniversary, and for just as long, the initiative has supported the activities of the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in realizing grand and truly humane dreams.

With the help of generous donors, we are raising money to acquire a modern accessible bus equipped with a car-mounted stretcher and a wheelchair lift.
The accessible bus currently in use has been operating since 2011; it is depreciated, has reduced reliability, and lacks air conditioning. The new bus will be a converted standard vehicle – HNRK plans to use up to 50,000 EUR of its own funding for its purchase, and raise the remaining, similarly sized amount through donations.
The bus is necessary to transport patients undergoing treatment at HNRK to other healthcare facilities, and sometimes to activities outside the hospital, such as nature therapies, leisure events, and charity events.
We are grateful for all assistance!

HNRK Support Fund
The Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre Support Fund Foundation is a charitable foundation whose primary goal is to support treatment at the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre (HNRK) and to develop rehabilitation services at HNRK and in Estonia as a whole through supporting professional education and research.
The Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre is a rehabilitation hospital in Estonia with over 65 years of history, specializing in assisting children and adults with neurological problems. The hospital has 102 beds across three treatment departments, and nearly 2,000 inpatient cases are treated annually, in addition to over 600 outpatient cases. Almost half of the patients admitted for inpatient care are undergoing intensive rehabilitation, often needing to relearn many daily activities from scratch after trauma or illness. One of the three treatment departments is largely dedicated to treating children with various developmental disorders and/or neurological diseases.
Nearly a third of Estonia’s inpatient rehabilitation services are provided at HNRK.
HNRK primarily collaborates with the Health Insurance Fund (Tervisekassa) in providing services, but also with the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Social Insurance Board, and various insurance companies; services can also be purchased by self-payers. The charitable funds raised primarily contribute to the acquisition of hospital equipment and facilities, staff training, or renovation work – in addition, we aim to use support to contribute more broadly to rehabilitation research and training activities.
The objective of the HNRK Support Fund is
- to develop and improve the accessibility of rehabilitation services and to support treatment work at the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre.
- To support and develop specialized education and research in rehabilitation in Estonia.
- To support the comprehensive development of the healthcare and social sectors in Estonia with the aim of promoting public awareness of the rehabilitation field and related social issues.
To this end, the HNRK Support Fund seeks domestic and foreign sponsors, organizes charity events and projects, and collects donations from individuals, companies, and others who wish to help. Concurrently, the HNRK Support Fund, in cooperation with HNRK, coordinates the optimal use of donated funds to achieve the necessary goals.
The Support Fund was awarded in 2018 by the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre Foundation.
